The Leadership Program for Musicians (LPM) is a national program that supports church musicians. You can start either year of this 2-year rolling program offered by The Episcopal Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. It’s open to everyone interested in the church’s music and worship.
Concert Fundraiser features the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. In January, the Holy Trinity Music School of the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti was destroyed in the earthquake. The boys choir is touring the Easter US to raise money to rebuild the school. A concert will be held on September 11, 2010 at 7:00 pm. At St. Patrick’s Catholic School, 1000 Bolling Avenue Norfolk. The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd Norfolk is hosting the choir for this event and they will be singing at the worship service at Good Shepherd on September 12.

Tickets are $10.00 donation (feel free to make a greater donation to support the rebuilding of the church and school). Education for Ministry (EFM) is a Christian education program that helps train lay people for ministry in the church and the world. The 4-year program consists of study and reflection on Scripture, Church history, & theology in the context of an intimate & supportive Christian community. Integral to EfM is the practice of reflecting on one’s life in a faith context through models of theological reflection. Each EfM group consists of 6 to 12 students and is facilitated by a trained mentor. Groups meet for 2 or 3 hours per week for nine months, usually during the school term, and students commit to one year at a time. EfM is a program of the School of Theology Programs Center at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN. It has been in existence over 30 years and has graduates world-wide.

Concert at St. Michael’s in September
St. Michael’s Episcopal Church presents “Alleluia on the Lawn” praise music concert on Saturday, September 18, 2:00-5:00 PM. The concert is on the lawn of the church, 501 Old Town Drive, Colonial Heights, so bring your lawn chairs! Children’s activities include Moonwalk and facepainting. Drinks and snacks available. FALL FESTIVAL
The Tenth Annual Fall Festival will be held at Hickory Neck Episcopal Church, 8300 Richmond Road, Toano, on Saturday, September 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Activities will include a silent auction, tours of the Historic Chapel by local historian Martha McCartney, and many children’s events. Delicious baked goods, homestyle cooking (including our Brunswick stew), arts and crafts, and attic treasures will be available for purchase. Live music will be performed throughout the day.
All proceeds will be used to benefit several local charities, including Angels of Mercy Clinic, Williamsburg Faith in Action, SpiritWorks Foundation, Grove Christian Outreach Center, and H.E.L.P.

Fall Camp set for Oct 25-28 – Discovering Ourselves Anew
The Tri-Diocesan Council will be holding a Fall Camp in October featuring keynote speaker, the Rt. Rev. Carol Joy Gallagher, Rector of All Saint’s Church, Harrison, New York. The Rt. Rev. F. Nell Powell, Bishop of Southwestern Virginia will serve as Chaplain and Ed Kilbourne is the featured musician, singer and storyteller. The weekend event promises to be educational and fun with music, stories and workshops.
Fall Camp will be held at Shrine Mont in Orkney Springs, Virginia and cost is $245 per person for a single room and $215 per person for a double room.

Stewardship Conference set for November – November 1, Chanco on the James, 12 until 4 p.m.
Kristine Miller, Director of Stewardship for the Diocese of Michigan is the guest speaker and will introduce the CLIMB program. CLIMB is both a stewardship education program and a process for raising annual operating funds in the parish. CLIMB takes participants on a journey toward transformational stewardship. Each aspect of the process reinforces the foundational elements of Christian stewardship. The ultimate goal of the process s to lead people to higher levels of understanding of Christian stewardship an raise levels of generosity among members. CLIMB asserts that stewardship is “grounded in gratitude, revealed in prayer and lived in faith.”
Look for our registration email in the next couple of weeks. For previous registrants – if you paid for the previous event originally scheduled for May, you need not pay again, but you will need to register.
St. Andrew’s 2010 Flower Festival Celebration….
After many months of planning, the St. Andrew’s Flower Festival is almost here. The 2010 festival marks the 18th year St. Andrew’s has produced this magnificent event in celebration of All Saint’s Day weekend. With over one thousand fresh flowers adorning the sacred space of St. Andrew’s, the church is particularly welcoming to our parishioners and guests. This year’s theme of “Christ Hath a Garden”, an anthem based on an English Folk Song written by Gerald Near, was selected by their Artistic Director, Steve Batten. The congregation invites you to join them by praising God’s beautiful creation, our earthly home, and celebrate the anniversary of our new priest, The Rev. John Rohrs and his growing family.
Friday, November 5:
The festival begins with the Grand Opening Gala on Friday, November 5 immediately following the Festival Blessing in the candlelit Sanctuary at 6:15 p.m. This is a ticketed event – $20.00 per person includes food, beverages and piano music by Eric Stevens.
Saturday, November 6:
The Festival Bazaar runs from 9:00 – 2:00 p.m., offering baked goods, clothing, holiday decorations, jewelry and more for your buying pleasure.
Fall Festival Luncheon 11:00 1:00 p.m. in White Hall.
Virginia Beach Middle School Band & Orchestra performs Saturday at noon in Sanctuary. .
Sunday, November 7:
The day begins with All Saints’ Day Eucharist at 8:00 and 10:15 a.m. with The Reverend John Rohrs officiating.
Sanctuary Guided Tours will be conducted by William Hennessey, Director, Chrysler Museum, Norfolk. Visitors will experience the rich history and tradition of the Church of St.Andrew as they visit each Stained Glass window and the beautiful Stations of the Cross oil paintings. Concert by Lee Teply’s ODU Renaissance Ensemble, “Collegium Musicum”, at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
