College scholarships available through the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia – Did you know that among the services and programs provided through the diocesan office is funding towards educational scholarships? In addition, the Episcopal Church Women provide continuing education scholarships for both students and adults.
Ridley Foundation trustees have college scholarships available for undergraduate Episcopalian college students who reside in this diocese (regardless of where they attend college). Scholarships are based on academic excellence and financial need. In addition to the application forms and transcripts, students also submit tax records for themselves and/or their parents and letters of recommendation from the clergy of their parish. Scholarship applications are due by June 20.

The ECW in the diocese of Southern Virginia provides scholarships for continuing education for students and adults who are continuing their education. The ECW provides for two scholarships: The Elise Holladay Scholarship – providing assistance to men and women for continued education beyond high school in undergraduate study only and The Tucker Memorial Scholarship – which provides assistance to men and women in church-related training in an accredited Episcopal Church training school. Deadline for applying is July 1.
Seeds of Hope grants are available to congregations and diocesan groups (e.g., affiliated institutions, commissions and task forces) within the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia. Seeds of Hope grants were the heart of our diocese’s Second Century “Feed My Sheep” campaign conducted fourteen years ago.
Funds from this drive produce income that is available on an annual basis for social justice ministries proposed by parishes, diocesan departments and commissions. It is envisioned that this seed money will be in the form of matching grants when possible so as to act as a catalyst to help parishes and other diocesan-affiliated groups begin or expand their ministries that reflect the biblical call to care and advocate for the “widow, the orphan, and the stranger.” It also includes the opportunity for special grants for economic justice causes.
Grants must support the development of new programs or support the expansion of such ministries that are already in action within congregations of the diocese. Requests that do not meet these criteria will not be considered.
SEEDS OF HOPE APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED
Applications for Seeds of Hope grants will be accepted through August 13, 2010. Any parish or diocesan organization may apply for a grant of up to $2500. Seeds of Hope grants are given to initiate or extend social justice outreach ministry. PDF Applications can be found here (link) To fill out a Word document for electronic submission click here.
