Education for Ministry (EFM) is a Christian education program that helps train lay people for ministry in the church and the world.  The 4-year program consists of study and reflection on Scripture, Church history, & theology in the context of an intimate & supportive Christian community.  Integral to EfM is the practice of reflecting on one’s life in a faith context through models of theological reflection.  Each EfM group consists of 6 to 12 students and is facilitated by a trained mentor.  Groups meet for 2 or 3 hours per week for nine months, usually during the school term, and students commit to one year at a time.  EfM is a program of the School of Theology Programs Center at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN.  It has been in existence over 30 years and has graduates world-wide.

Thursday Evening EFM at The Church of the Good Shepherd - 6:30 to 8:30 late August through April

EfM at The Church of the Good Shepherd welcomes anyone new to EFM or persons interested in finishing the series after a break.    The schedule is a bit different to work with busy summer and spring sailing and outside activities.  Tricia Mckee, Associate for Christian Formation and Newcomers at Good Shepherd is the mentor for this group.  If you would like to inquire, please contact patricia.mckee@goodshepherdnorfolk.org, or call 423-3230

The Joy of Worship: Discovering Dynamic Liturgy

October 13 -15, 2010

Roslyn Conference Center
Richmond, VA

Facilitator: Dent Davidson
Missioner for Liturgy & the Arts in the Diocese of Chicago and Musical Chaplain for the House of Bishops

Parish teams of clergy, musicians and Christian formation leaders are invited to join Bishop Hollerith and guest speakers,
musicians and other presenters.

This conference is sponsored by the Liturgy Commission and CE-Net (the Christian Education network) in the Diocese of Southern Virginia.

Meet Dent Davidson

A professional church musician since his teens, Dent Davidson’s primary work is to unite voices in song with joy and passion.  He travels frequently as a workshop clinician & consultant in music and worship, and currently serves on the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music of the Episcopal Church, and as Music Chaplain to the Episcopal House of Bishops.

With a degree in Composition and Vocal Jazz, Dent enjoys widening the scope and variety of music sung and heard in worship, and spends much of his time composing and searching for new resources.  His goal:  To touch hearts by embracing the beauty of the musical/liturgical tradition we have received, AND expanding it.  The happy by-product is often a Church that swings!
