Children & Family Formation

The Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia supports children and family formation including Christian eduction. Here are some resources that may help you with Sunday School and other Christian formation activities:

Godly Play: Godly Play is a Montessori-based program for children’s spiritual formation. During our most recent program, our trainers, Caroline Black, Canon for Formation in the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia and Mary Lou Crifasi, Director of Christian Formation at Epiphany, focused on the theology of Godly Play and storytelling techniques. During this workshop the leaders addressed the training needs of participants helping them to use new skills and techniques to implement a positive children’s spiritual formation program in their parish. Update: Godly Play materials are available again from the same company that has been making them for twenty years. Apparently the issues with Church Publishing have been resolved. Please call Teresa at 620-635-4018 to order materials. We are also working to bring a Godly Play Teacher Certification training to Virginia Beach in June. Details will follow.
