Chanco on the James is a residential youth camp and retreat center supported by the Episcopal Diocece of Southern Virginia. Located in Surry County on 125 beautiful acres next to the James River, Chanco is the perfect location for church or company retreats, family gathering, or special events. Motel-style rooms or home-like lodges allow for large and small groups to gather, conduct business or join in faith services. Camp Chanco is Chanco on the James’ residential summer camp for boys and girls 8 -17 years old. Rustic cabins, outdoor pavilions, and new and exciting activities provide for summer experiences and friendships that last a lifetime. Swimming, sailing, canoeing, archery, nature studies, games, zip lines, ropes course and other attractions provide youth with an opportunity to learn, grow and have fun in the process. Summer out-trips sponsored by Chanco also allows older youth the opportunity to try rock-climbing, white-water rafting, horseback riding, surfing and lots more.
